3 main factions and Respect balance

So a few of us were talking and came up with a fun idea. Instead of the one main mafia type that runs the island, how about about 3 separate factions that have a total slice of a total respect pie. Players join into a faction and do missions for said factions. Kill enemy faction members (players and npc) to add to your factions pie slice. Die/kill friendly players and lose respect. And some sort of balancing function like the larger the faction respect the greedier their shop prices are or the harder the ai might be that attacks the faction.

Yea but I like how it would make you need to identify targets before engaging
