Are 'Sensors' in mission.sqm needed or outdated?

Been reading a bit on the forums while trying to fix safezones on Chernarus to prevent zombies spawning and I noticed some people say the Sensors in the mission.sqm were actually removed in previous Exile versions. I'm wondering if they're no longer needed, and if so, how do I go about setting up custom traders/safezones without them?

 

Also, if anyone can shed light on this, how can I enable safezones to delete and prevent zombie spawns in them? (ExileZ thing, I know.)
